Rep. Johnson announces reelection bid for N.C. House District 113

The youngest member of the North Carolina General Assembly has officially announced that he is running for a fourth term, seeking reelection in 2024.

According to an Oct. 12 news release, State Rep. Jake Johnson, 29, the deputy majority whip of the N.C. House, will be seeking another term for the 113th District, which includes southern Henderson County, Polk County, western Rutherford County and southern McDowell County.

Johnson, a lifelong resident of the district, has served in the legislature since 2019.

“I could not be prouder of what we have been able to accomplish in my time representing District 113 in the House," Johnson said in the release. "Not only have we been able to consistently bring back record amounts of money to the district, but we have also been able to pass commonsense legislation that has improved lives right here in Western North Carolina. However, the work is not done.

"I want to continue fighting for my constituents to make sure the next generation has what they need to succeed right here at home. That is why I am running for reelection, and I am asking for your support."

Johnson advocates for pro-life, pro-second amendment and pro-business policies, the release said. Johnson also said that since Republicans have taken a supermajority in the State Legislature and have been able to override Gov. Roy Cooper’s vetoes, they have and will continue to see what he calls “huge legislative successes."

This past session Johnson was appointed chairman of the influential House Oversight Committee. He also serves as chairman of the Information Technology Appropriations Committee and vice chairman of the House Appropriations and Commerce committees.
