Rep. Madeleine Dean defeats GOP newcomer Christian Nascimento PA's 4th Congressional District

Two-term incumbent Democrat US Rep. Madeleine Dean has won reelection after defeating newcomer Republican Christian Nascimento in the Pennsylvania’s 4th Congressional District race.

On Wednesday morning, election tallies showed Dean with 219,777 of the votes or close to 61% to Nascimento's 140,811.

Prior to the the election, neither candidate responded to the Voter’s Guide questionnaire, so the following information has been gleaned from their campaign websites and interviews.

Dean, 63, of Jenkintown, began her political career as a teenager when she was elected as a local committeewoman. She is an academic. She was elected to Congress in 2018. She is dedicated to “stopping gun violence and guaranteeing health care for all,” according to her House.gov biography. Health care is a “right,” according to her campaign website, and she is vice chair of the House Women’s Health Caucus.

She supports abortion rights, “common sense” gun control, universal pre-K, college debt cancellation and tuition-free community colleges. Dean also wants to end cash bail for criminals, and favors “limiting imprisonment” for non-violent criminals, her website states.

She also supports the priorities of the House Select Committee on Climate, aiming at legislation that “transforms our country into a climate-forward" leader.

Nascimento is a first generation American and business executive, who serves as “Vice President for Product” at Comcast, where he develops and launches new products. Prior, he was employed in finance at an unnamed biotech startup, according to his biography, and served on the Methacton School Board.

He believes school children should always be taught in-person, and that parents should have a choice and say in their kid’s education.

Nascimento believes in providing “better opportunities” for Americans, some of which can be realized by returning manufacturing and jobs to the U.S. Police should have increased funding, criminals should be taken off the streets, and Big Tech and “foreign adversaries” should be “held accountable.”
