Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) says Donald Trump called him to congratulate him on his primary victory the evening of Tuesday, August 23.

Reporter to Gaetz: “Have you heard from anyone else in Washington tonight?”

Rep. Gaetz responds to reporter amid crowd cheering: “Yeah, I've had, I heard from President Trump. Actually, he gave me a call. He was very excited and very proud, and he told the great voters in Northwest Florida to be ready because we've got another big win coming in 2024.”

The incumbent won his Republican primary defeating Mark Lombardo and Greg Merk.

The Florida Congressman will face Democrat Rebekah Jones in the General Election on Tuesday, November 8. Jones, who was a data manager for the Florida Department of Health, claimed she was fired from her job in 2020 and drew attention for alleging that Gov. DeSantis’ administration manipulated COVID-19 data.

Gaetz represents Florida's 1st Congressional District since 2017.
