Rep. Mike Kelly will chair House Ways and Means tax subcommittee

Rep. Mike Kelly on Thursday was appointed chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee's Subcommittee on Tax in the 118th Congress.

"I'm honored to serve as the chairman of the critical and important Subcommittee on Tax," Kelly, of Butler, R-16th Dist., said in a news release. "Over the next two years, I plan to closely examine the IRS and to ensure it works as the service-driven agency it is intended to be. I will continue our fight to make sure taxpayer money is spent effectively and efficiently. After all, every penny that comes to Washington first comes from the pocket of a hardworking American taxpayer. And, perhaps most importantly, I will fight to make sure Americans can keep more of their hard-earned money. I look forward to working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to accomplish our 'Taxpayer First' agenda."

Kelly, 74, also will continue to be assigned to the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee.

Kelly has served on the Ways and Means Committee since 2013. He had been the ranking member of the 117th Congress of the Select Revenue Measures Subcommittee, the former name of the Subcommittee on Tax. He previously had been the ranking member of the Oversight Subcommittee.
