Republican House representative Marjorie Taylor Greene spoke before the floor to call for a “resolution censuring Representative Rashida Tlaib for anti-Semitic activity, sympathizing with terrorist organizations, and leading an insurrection at the United States Capitol Complex.”

Greene cited instances of Tlaib, a Democrat from Michigan of Palestinian descent, making controversial statements about the Holocaust that Tlaib says were misinterpreted, and using the words “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” which is a slogan endorsed by the Palestinian Liberation Organization and Hamas, that has been frequently interpreted as advocating for genocide against the Jews.

The most significant charge that was that “Rashida Tlaib led an insurrection at the United States Capitol complex on October 18, 2023, which put members of Congress, their staff, and Capitol visitors in danger.” This refers to a pro-Palestinian protest that spilled into the Cannon House, an office building in the Capitol complex, before being broken up by the police. This protest has inaccurately been characterized as occurring inside the Capitol building, like the January 6 insurrection.

Tlaib has not responded. There is also a resolution to censure Marjorie Taylor Greene over incendiary statements that has not yet been voted on.
