Arizona Republican Rep. Paul Gosar no longer tries to hide his coziness with antisemites.

At least, he doesn’t try very hard.

Media Matters reported this week that Gosar, in his House.gov newsletter, posted an article praising the congressman from an antisemitic, Holocaust-denying website.

The headline on the website article praising Gosar reads: “Congressman: Jewish warmongers Nuland & Blinken ‘Are Dangerous Fools Who Can Get Us All Killed.’ ”

In his newsletter highlighting the article, Gosar removed the word “Jewish”.

GOP House is comfortable with his bigotry

The website praising Gosar also has praised Adolf Hitler, calling him a “great man” and calling the Holocaust a hoax.

The fact that Gosar has no problem using his official House newsletter to legitimize such an atrocity tells you all you need to know about how comfortable he is with his bigotry.

And how comfortable the Republican voters in his district are with his bigotry.

In Congress: How Gosar, others are targeting Biden

And how comfortable the Republican-controlled House is with his bigotry.

It’s not like it was a secret.

Gosar has defended the worst of us

A few years back, Gosar was removed from his committee assignments after posting an anime-style video depicting him slaying liberal Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez with a sword and threatening to harm President Joe Biden.

When Republicans assumed control of the House in 2022, his committee assignments were restored.

It didn’t matter that Gosar was among those who tried to disenfranchise Arizona voters by voiding the state’s electoral college votes.

It didn’t matter that Gosar has expressed his support for the insurrectionists who stormed the U.S. Capitol, an event that led to at least four deaths and injured 150 or so, saying on social media, “The treatment of the Jan. 6 protestors is inhumane and unacceptable. They deserve much more than an immediate pardon, but it would be a good start.”

It didn’t matter that Gosar has previously has supported and defended the fascist antisemite Nick Fuentes.

What does that make his supporters?

It didn’t matter that Gosar’s own siblings believe he should be kicked out of Congress, his brother David saying, “I consider him a traitor to his country. I consider him a traitor to his family. He doesn’t see it. He’s disgraced and dishonored himself.”

It won’t matter this time, either, with Gosar proudly pointing to the praise he received from Holocaust-denying antisemites.

All this at a time when a report by the Anti-Defamation League and Tel Aviv University says there has been a sharp rise in the number of antisemitic incidents in the United States and other countries. The ADL recorded 3,697 antisemitic incidents in the United States.

Meantime, Gosar is not even trying – much – to hide what he is.

He’s comfortable. Secure. Perhaps because his constituents and his colleagues in Congress are well aware of what he is, yet support him anyway.

Which makes them … ?
