Three of Rep. Paul Gosar's siblings have endorsed his Republican primary opponent, Adam Morgan, for Congress in the Republican primary in Arizona's new 9th Congressional District.

This is the first time the siblings have endorsed a GOP candidate against Gosar.

“Although our policy positions differ significantly from Adam’s, we endorse Adam Morgan over our brother Paul Gosar, since Paul is clearly unhinged, completely unfit for office, and does not represent reality-based Arizonans,” Jennifer, David and Tim Gosar said in a joint written statement.

In a race where no candidates from other parties are challenging Gosar, the winner of the Aug. 2 primary most likely will be the winner of the general election.

With early voting in progress, the Gosars' endorsement is an appeal to those independent voters. In Arizona, they are permitted to vote in either the Republican or Democratic primary.

In a written statement to The Arizona Republic, Morgan, a West Point graduate and former U.S. Army Ranger captain, responded to the Gosars' endorsement: "If we are going to address and fix problems in this country it is going to take Americans working together. The Republican Party must promote ideals that do not divide us, but promote equality, hard work, and the Reagan principle of a smaller federal government."

Dismayed by his extremist views and his involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection, which have been discussed in the congressional hearings, Gosar's siblings have come out against their brother before. The majority of his nine siblings endorsed Gosar's Democratic opponents David Brill in 2018 and Delina DiSanto in 2020.

Rory McShane, a Gosar campaign consultant, told The Republic via text: "I saw the endorsement and thought it was fitting, Jennifer, David, and Tim are liberal establishment Trump haters — just like Adam Morgan. Congratulations to Mr. Morgan on this apt endorsement. Hopefully, Jennifer, David, and Tim can volunteer for Mr. Morgan this weekend and help him move the rest of his belongings from his house in Northern Virginia, where he voted 9 months ago."

The new 9th Congressional District includes: Yuma, Mohave and La Paz counties and western Maricopa County, including Buckeye, Surprise, Goodyear, Avondale and parts of Glendale. More than a third of the registered voters in the district are independent.
