Rep. Darren Soto, D-Kissimmee, has made two community funding requests related to Polk County for the fiscal year 2024 budget.

Soto is seeking $4.9 million to construct 7.7 miles of sidewalks in the Poinciana area of eastern Polk County. The sidewalks would be mainly located near school bus stops and along school bus routes, according to a news release. The project consists of requests that have been approved by the Polk County Sidewalk Advisory Committee.

Soto has also requested $960,000 for Toho Water Authority, which operates a wastewater collection system that provides service to Poinciana within Polk and Osceola counties, according to a news release. The funding would add pipes to address frequent failures that have disrupted wastewater service and caused wastewater spills.
