Oklahoma House Rep. Wendi Stearman met constituents Tuesday to discuss proposed legislative and congressional redistricting.

In a meeting at Crossing 2nd, Stearman displayed a map of the proposed changes to Oklahoma House Districts 10 and 11, which overlap in Bartlesville, explaining changes and vetting questions.

Minimal changes have been proposed for both districts, with land around Bartlesville taken from House District 10, represented by Judd Strom, and added to House District 11, represented by Stearman.

The plan would expand House District 11’s coverage from 188 square miles to 196 square miles, and reduce House District 10’s coverage from 1,128 square miles to 1,125 square miles.

“There really weren't a lot of changes that needed to be made to District 11 … it’s very similar to what it already was,” Stearman said.

She discussed the redistricting process, which has involved months of meetings with legislative redistricting staff and adjusting lines for federal census numbers.

Stearman also briefly discussed the proposed changes to Oklahoma’s congressional districts, which include drastic changes to the areas near Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

The plan removes Washington County from being in the same district as the Tulsa metro area.

“The congressional district will change significantly for us in Washington County. I don’t know about you, but I am very fond of Congressman Hern. I think he is the greatest representative we have in DC right now and Washington County will be losing Congressman Hern in the redistricting,” Stearman said.

Later in the Monday meeting, Mark Sherwood discussed his bid for governor.

The Tulsa-based candidate has been outspoken about his Christianity and opposition to vaccine mandates.
