Repairs Made to Homes Damaged by Strike in Ukraine's Zhytomyr Region

Emergency responders helped civilians make repairs to homes in Rakivshchyna, a village in Ukraine’s northwest Zhytomyr region, after the buildings were damaged by a rocket attack on Thursday, March 24, local officials said.

According to the Zhytomyr branch of Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES), at least 18 homes in the village were destroyed or damaged by a strike at around 9 am. At least one person was injured, the organization said.

The Ukrainian rock musician and political activist Svyatoslav Vakarchuk visited Rakivshchyna on Thursday and posted video on Facebook that depicted damage to several homes.

The SES said strikes in the nearby village of Kyrdany, about seven miles northwest of Rakivshchyna, also in Zhytomyr’s Korosten district, had damaged a school, boiler room, and other buildings. Credit: SES Zhytomyr via Storyful
