Repeat strong effort from Lincoln Bates powers Kernel golf at Huron

Aug. 26—HURON — For the second tournament in a row, Mitchell's Lincoln Bates shot the team's top score — once again firing a round of 73 — at the Huron Invitational played Friday at Broadland Creek Golf Course.

Bates finished in a tie for third place as an individual, leading Mitchell to a sixth-place team finish in the tournament with a team score of 336. O'Gorman won with a score of 303, edging Watertown's 305 mark.

Watertown's Jake Olson won individual medalist honors, shooting a 1-under-par 71, finishing as the only player under par. Harrisburg's Hayden Scott was second with a 72, followed by O'Gorman's Radley Mauney, Watertown's Kaden Rylance and Bates checking in with 1-over-par 73s.

Bates' round included three birdies and four bogeys, with a score of even-par 36 on the course's front nine and a birdie at the par-4 10th hole, which was Bates' final hole of the day.

For Mitchell, Noah Larson and Jackson Childs each shot rounds of 87, finishing in a tie for 35th place. Marshall Widstrom and Asher Dannenbring each shot scores of 89, finishing in 44th place. Jager Juracek was in 54th place with a score of 94.

Mitchell will visit Yankton on Tuesday, Aug. 30 for a Marchand Cup meeting at Fox Run Golf Course.
