Report: 2 major auto insurance carriers won’t offer coverage to owners of certain vehicles

A new report shows that two major insurance carriers won’t offer coverage to owners of certain vehicles.

According to Progressive and State Farm, the companies have stopped offering insurance on certain Kia and Hyundai models in certain cities.

The cities where you won’t be covered in include Denver, Colorado and St. Louis.

Models that are affected are certain 2015-2019 models, because these models are easy to steal because they lack anti theft technology.

“SUVs and cars don’t have electronic immobilizers, which rely on a computer chip in the car and another in the key that communicate to confirm that the key really belongs to that vehicle. Without the right key, an immobilizer should do just that – stop the car from moving, the Highway Loss Data Institute said.

Both companies say the changes apply to their new policies.
