Report: Bills have ‘monitored’ cornerbacks on trade market ahead of deadline

·2 min read

The Buffalo Bills are in a prime position to push toward a deep playoff run in 2021.

After a promising season ended in the AFC title game last year, the Bills are 4-1 and rolling hot. When the trade deadline comes on Nov. 2, Buffalo could look to lock up their future run by adding a piece.

In potentially doing so, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that this addition could be in Buffalo’s secondary. In his recent breakdown of the upcoming deadline, the Bills are said to be a team that has looked into corners.

Per the report:

Several teams have actively monitored the cornerback market in recent months, including the Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets, Houston Texans and New York Giants. The position has only grown in importance because of injuries across the league.

Per ESPN, two cornerback on the trading block are the Denver Broncos’ duo of Kyle Fuller and Bryce Callahan. The Broncos reportedly “received calls” on them during the preseason.

However, the Bills are not specifically said to have called about that pair. Rather, Buffalo is just in that positional market.

Only time will tell if the Bills could truly add a corner, whether it be via the Broncos or another team. Currently it seem unlikely.

At the time of the report, the Bills have the best overall defense in the NFL (251.8 yards per game allowed). Factoring in there is Buffalo’s second-best pass defense (173.4).

There is a possibility that the ESPN report is a bit outdated considering Denver reportedly received calls “during the preseason.” Perhaps the Bills were looking into adding a cornerback around that time, but after five games, Buffalo doesn’t really have to add anymore.

At their No. 2 cornerback spot across from Tre’Davious White, Levi Wallace has played well. Dane Jackson spelling in on occasion hasn’t been noticeable, either.

Potentially a depth piece could be added, but there’s no reason for the Bills to break the bank here.

Still, as the trade deadline approaches, potentially just keep this cornerback tid in the back of your mind.

In addition to the Bills potentially looking at the cornerback market, the former world-wide leader says Buffalo might receive calls asking about their pass-rushing group.
