Report: Broncos allowing DC Ejiro Evero out of his contract

The Denver Broncos will need a new defensive coordinator under new head coach Sean Payton.
The Broncos are releasing DC Ejiro Evero from his contract with the club, allowing the coach to pursue opportunities with other teams, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
In addition to drawing head coach interest this offseason, Evero has drawn DC interest from the Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings.
The Broncos, meanwhile, have already put in interview requests with Brian Flores and Sean Desai for their now-open DC position.
Evero (42) played safety at UC Davis before joining the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2004. One year later, he returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers later hired Evero as a defensive quality control coach (QCC) in 2007.
After three seasons with Tampa Bay, Evero joined the University of Redlands as a special teams coordinator and safeties coach in 2010. Evero returned to the NFL one year later as a QCC with the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners promoted Evero to “defensive assistant” in 2015.
Evero then joined the Green Bay Packers as a defensive QCC in 2016. He got his big break in 2017 when the Los Angeles Rams hired him as a safeties coach. After four years coaching L.A.’s safeties, Evero was promoted to secondary coach and passing game coordinator in 2021. The Rams went on to win the Super Bowl that season.
Evero joined the Broncos as a defensive coordinator in 2022. Denver’s defense totaled the 10th-most interceptions (15) and the fifth-most forced fumbles (16) while allowing the 10th-fewest rushing touchdowns (12) and the fifth-fewest passing touchdowns (20) in his first season.
