Report: Cardinals bringing in QB Kelly Bryant

The Arizona Cardinals have an open spot on their roster following the decision by right tackle Marcus Gilbert to opt out of the season. They have three quarterbacks currently on the roster. They could be adding a fourth.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, they will be bringing undrafted rookie quarterback Kelly Bryant, who played collegiately at both Clemson and Missouri.

The NFL had previously banned all player visits to team facilities except for medical examinations. Now teams will be able to bring in players to work out. It has led to much less roster movement.

Bryant started one season at Clemson, in 2017, after Deshaun Watson was drafted. He was replaced in 2018 by freshman Trevor Lawrence, so Bryant became a graduate transfer, heading to Missouri, where he started in 2019.

In 2019, the 6-foot-4, 225-pounder appeared in 10 games, completing 62% of his passes for 2,215 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed for 242 yards and a score.

In 2017 with Clemson, he had 2,802 passing yards, 13 touchdown passes and eight interceptions, but he also rushed for 655 yards and 11 touchdowns.

If the Cardinals sign him, he will compete with Chris Streveler, another dual-threat quarterback for either a spot on the 53-man roster or the practice squad. Because there will be no preseason this year, we will miss out on that competition, if Bryant ends up signing.
