Boston Celtics pre-draft workouts have been continuing apace according to Forbes Sports’ Chris Grenham, who related a pair of 2021 NBA draft prospects worked out with the Celtics in the last week.

It’s unclear if we can discern anything from the range of players Boston has been inviting to conduct workouts with, but it hints at a focus on fringier players who would perhaps end up being taken in the latter half of the second round where the Celtics control the No. 45 pick of the coming draft, or perhaps go undrafted and earn a camp invite with Boston instead.

With the draft still a ways off on Thursday, July 29 it could simply be that the Celtics are starting at the back end and working their way up, but without further attempts at mind-reading, let’s take a quick look at the players Grenham reports working out with Boston.

Aaron Wiggins - Maryland - wing

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

A 6-foot-6 shooting guard and small forward, Wiggins (no relation to Andrew) put up 14.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game with the Terrapins in 2020-21, his junior season. A solid 3-point shot at 35.6% and 5.2 attempts per game last season, the North Carolina native needs to work on getting to the line more and defensive consistency.

Marcus Zegarowski - Creighton - guard

Kareem Elgazzar/Indy Star

Zegarowski, the younger brother of Michael Carter-Williams, is a 6-foot-2 guard who averaged 15.8 points, 3.6 boards, 4.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game in his junior season with the Blue Jays in 2020-21. He shot a sizzling 42.1% from deep on 6.6 attempts per game whose biggest knocks are his relatively smaller size and lateral quickness on defense. This post originally appeared on Celtics Wire.
