Report details pandemic-related job losses in downtown Baltimore

A new report puts the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on downtown Baltimore into sharp focus, detailing job losses and economic impact -- but some see it as an opening for recovery. Shelonda Stokes, president of the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, described the impact of the pandemic as deeper than the great recession. Downtown business district jobs dropped by 5.6% from 124,785 jobs in 2019 to 117,970 jobs in 2020. Many of the losses are related to the pandemic's impact on restaurants and tourism.
