Fordham starting center Jesse Bunting will miss the remainder of the college basketball season after suffering a stroke earlier this week, per a report by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, Sports Illustrated and WFAN. The school confirmed it Wednesday afternoon.

Bunting suffered a minor stroke Monday, per the school announcement, and is “resting comfortably” at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan.

The junior forward missed most of the 2017-18 season due to an injury and contributed off the bench the year prior as a sophomore. He was a big recruit for the Rams, having been ranked the fourth-best player in the state of Massachusetts.

He started 23 of 28 games played this year and averaged 6.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. With a .552 shooting percentage he’s one of the top performers for the Rams (74-of-134).

Bunting spoke with the athletic department late last month, two days after his birthday, about his recent success on the court. He said at the beginning of the season he had issues with his health, but lately had “locked in.”

The Rams (11-18, 2-14 Atlantic-10 ) are scheduled to host George Washington University in the Bronx Wednesday evening. The team will wear “Play for Jesse” T-shirts while the Colonials sport red shoelaces in his honor.

The Atlantic-10 Championship begins next week at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
