The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft, former Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Eric Fisher, could soon have a new home.

According to a new report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Fisher is set to visit the Indianapolis Colts later this week. This comes following a report that Fisher was in talks with several teams.

The former starting left tackle for the Chiefs suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in the AFC title game against the Buffalo Bills in January. It’s unclear if he’d be able to pass a physical yet in his return from injury, so this could be nothing more than an exploratory visit and check-in to gauge his current status.

The pairing makes plenty of sense due to the connection between Fisher and Colts GM Chris Ballard, who was the Director of Player Personnel in Kansas City when Fisher was drafted in 2013.

Indy also has a very clear need at the left tackle position. They were among the teams who had a need at the left tackle position but failed to address it in the 2021 NFL draft. When it became apparent they weren’t going to select an offensive tackle early in the draft, I had a feeling that this might be the landing spot for him.

A two-time Pro Bowler in Kansas City, Fisher appeared in a total of 117 regular-season games, starting 113 of those games. He played in 12 postseason games during the course of his career with the Chiefs.

Earlier this offseason Brett Veach gave an optimistic timeline for Fisher’s recovery. What transpires with the Colts will give us a better idea of where he’s currently at in his return from injury.
