Former Bayern Munich and Germany defender jerome Boateng has underwent medical tests at Serie A side Salernitana as a transfer is close to be completed, the Gazetta dello Sport newspaper reported on Thursday.

According to the reports, the 2014 World Cup winner arrived in Italy on Wednesday. Videos posted on social media platforms showed him arriving at a hotel. He's expected to sign a contract until the end of the current season.

Boateng spent 10 years at Bayern, winning all club titles on offer with them, including trebles in 2013 and 2020. Most recently, he played at Olympique Lyon until July 2023, but his contract was not extended.

Bayern had considered signing Botagen again and the defender even trained with the squad, but the club eventually decided against it.

Fans and rights groups had protested because Boateng faces another court case in charges of assaulting his then partner and mother of his children on holiday in 2018. A previous verdict against Boateng was overturned.
