A former Spartans basketball star was nearly included in a massive NBA trade on Sunday.

Kyrie Irving of the Brooklyn Nets was nearly shipped to the Los Angeles Lakers, and had that trade came into fruition then Max Christie would have been part of the return package. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Christie would have been one of the many players and draft picks sent over to the Nets in exchange for Irving.

That deal, however, didn’t occur and Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks instead. So with that, Christie remains on the Los Angeles Lakers — for now at least.

Christie was drafted by the Lakers in the second round of last year’s NBA Draft. He has appeared in 33 games (including two starts) this year, and is averaging 3.8 points per game.
