Former Tennessee defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh, who was fired by Jeremy Pruitt in 2020, will be hired in the same position at Auburn, according to a report.

Brumbaugh played at Auburn, where he was an All-SEC defensive lineman in the late 1990s. His hiring was first reported by Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports and the Athletic.

Brumbaugh only coached four games at UT. He was hired in February 2020 under a two-year contract and then terminated by Pruitt in October.

Three months later, Pruitt, two assistants and seven additional staff members were fired amid an NCAA investigation into alleged recruiting violations. Brumbaugh was not named in that matter.

UT paid Brumbaugh $830,000 in severance, which was included in the $5.4 million buyouts reported in the 2021 fiscal year for the athletics department.

Before coming to the Vols, Brumbaugh spent one season as Colorado's defensive line coach. He also has coached at Louisiana Tech, Syracuse, Kentucky and Maryland, among other stops, and worked his first FBS job as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at LSU.
