Report: Jaguars host OL Cameron Fleming for free agent visit, waive RB Mekhi Sargent

According to a report from ESPN's Field Yates, the Jaguars hosted free agent offensive lineman Cameron Fleming on a free agent visit Monday.

Fleming, 30, recently played for the Denver Broncos, starting 15 games. He led all Broncos players with 976 offensive snaps last year and has played nine seasons in the NFL since being drafted in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.

Since being drafted, Fleming has spent time with four different organizations, including the Patriots, Broncos, New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. He's started 61 games in his career, the most being with the Giants (16) in 2020.

Earlier this spring, the Jaguars lost OL Jawaan Taylor via free agency to the Kansas City Chiefs. That left the team with a void to fill at the team's swing-tackle position. The likely candidate to take over starting duties for Taylor is Walker Little, who has started five games for the team since being drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Jaguars have made a few additions to its roster via outside free agency.

Thus far, they've signed three players, running back D'Ernest Johnson and defensive linemen Michael Dogbe and Henry Mondeaux. They've yet to make a free-agent addition on the offensive line, though they've brought back both exclusive rights free-agent players Blake Hance and Cole Van Lanen.

Fleming would provide some stability to the swing tackle position for Jacksonville while allowing them to still explore the NFL Draft as a method of adding talent to the position group.

When speaking at last week's NFL owner's meetings, Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke spoke about having to replace Taylor, and the want to find that potential replacement among players already on the team.

"When you look at the tackle position, for instance, last year, Cam missed five games. Walker stepped in and we played pretty good football, so we feel really confident in Walker Little to step in and play at a high level, with Cam coming back as well," Baalke told the Times-Union. "You're always looking to address situations within the roster."

Jaguars waive running back Mekhi Sargent

Bringing in Fleming for a visit wasn't the only move the Jaguars made on Monday. Announced early in the afternoon, the team waived running back Mekhi Sargent, who spent the 2022 season on the team's practice squad before signing a reserve/futures deal with the club just before the end of the year.

Sargent, 25, was originally acquired by the team late during the 2021 season. He appeared in one game for Jacksonville, carrying the football once for two yards. He was originally signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa.

The Jaguars have re-shaped their RB room of late, signing Johnson to become the team's second or third-team back to go along with Travis Etienne and JaMycal Hasty. He will compete for playing time with second-year player Snoop Conner during training camp.
