According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Jaguars right tackle Jawaan Taylor is expected to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs at the start of the new league year at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15.

The deal is expected to be a four-year contract worth $80 million, including $60 million guaranteed. Taylor's average per year salary of $20 million is — as of right now — the fourth-highest salary among all tackles, left or right.

The list includes 49ers' Trent Williams ($23 million), Packers' David Bakhtiari ($23 million) and Texans' Laremy Tunsil ($22 million).

The NFL began its two-day negotiating period Monday, giving teams the ability to officially talk with agents about prospective players and contracts designed to be agreed to, but not signed until the new league year begins.

Taylor, 25, spent the last four years in Jacksonville after being drafted by the team in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Taylor has started every game in Jacksonville while missing just a few snaps over the course of his career. He missed no snaps between 2019-21.

The Jaguars worked hard to sign the right tackle throughout the offseason but were not going to match a deal worth an estimated $20 million per year for the right tackle.

Taylor quickly became one of the Jaguars' best offensive linemen in 2022 after having an up-and-down career up to that point. In 2022, Taylor allowed just five sacks and 21 pressures, according to Pro Football Focus. For reference, Taylor's 21 pressures allowed were the best among Jaguar offensive linemen that totaled at least 129 pass-blocking snaps.

Taylor's reported payday came not long after former San Francisco 49ers right tackle Mike McGlinchey reportedly agreed to a deal worth $87.5 million over five years, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.

The Jaguars will have to work hard to replace Taylor's production with an in-house candidate, Walker Little, already lined up to do just that. Don't be surprised to see Jacksonville adding more offensive line depth via the NFL Draft next month.

Taylor grew up in Florida about 150 miles south of Jacksonville in Cocoa and played college football at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
