Report: Jets expect Carl Lawson ready by Week 1

The New York Jets expect defensive end Carl Lawson now to be set and ready to go by opening day, according to ESPN’s Flight Deck podcast.

After signing in New York last offseason, Lawson suffered an Achilles injury during training camp. It caused him to miss his entire first season with the team.

Regardless of sport, an Achilles issue is always known as one of the most serious injuries an athlete can suffer. However, Lawson is reportedly “expected to be better by opening day” in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Previously there were reports that Lawson would be ready by training camp, and that he was ahead of schedule, but things might be getting slowed down a tad. It sounds as if it’s nothing more than an extra precaution.

That’s important to note because of what will happen before.

Prior to the season comes training camp and then preseason.

Early in camp, the Jets might opt to keep Lawson off the field and give him more time to rehab. There’s also the possibility the team slaps an injury designation on him.

Still, that is not going to change their timeline of opening day.

It’s “all about opening day” for the team. Which is what most would be look most toward anyway.
