Report: Louisville's football coaching staff adds Western Kentucky alum Ryan Wallace

Jeff Brohm is switching schools but keeping continuity among his coaching staff.

Purdue tight ends coach Ryan Wallace will join Brohm at Louisville, according to a report from On3's Purdue writer, Tom Dienhart. He had previously been with the Boilermakers for six years, starting as an offensive/special teams quality control analyst before working as an assistant. This past season was his first as the tight ends coach with an added responsibility of helping out with the offensive line.

Wallace’s relationship with Brohm dates back to his time as a tight end at Western Kentucky (2011-12). After graduating, he worked under Brohm as a graduate assistant for three years.

In 2016, Wallace, who also played at Kentucky as an offensive tackle during the 2010 season, coached tight ends at Austin Peay for a year before reuniting with Brohm at Purdue.

Wallace is the latest Boilermakers coach to fill out the Cardinals’ coaching staff. Shortly after Brohm was approved to be the school’s next head football coach by the University of Louisville’s board of directors, Boilermakers athletic director Mike Bobinski announced that co-defensive coordinator Ron English, wide receivers coach Garrick McGee and running backs coach Chris Barclay will all be part of U of L’s football coaching staff.

Barclay had a standout career at Male High School before playing at Wake Forest, while McGee was Louisville's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for a year under Bobby Petrino in 2014. English spent the 2008 season as the Cardinals' defensive coordinator and safeties coach at the same time Brohm was the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach with Steve Kragthorpe at the helm.

Wallace is the son of St. Xavier head football coach Kevin Wallace, who was named the Kentucky Football Coaches Association’s Class 6A, District 3 Coach of the Year this season after leading the top-ranked Tigers to a 10-2 season and second-round playoff appearance. During his nearly 40-year coaching career, Kevin Wallace has won five state championships and accumulated more than 300 victories.
