Memphis football defensive lineman Maurice White enters transfer portal

Memphis senior defensive tackle Maurice White has entered the transfer portal, a source confirmed to The Commercial Appeal. White, who's in his fifth season, is no longer listed on the Tigers' roster.

The source requested anonymity because an announcement has yet to be made public.

White, who played 11 games last season, was on the roster when preseason practice started Wednesday. He was third on the team last season with 3 1/2 sacks among his 12 tackles.

White was expected to add depth at defensive line with starter Morris Joseph transferring three weeks before spring practice. However, sophomore linemen Cam'Ron Jackson and Zy Brockington started the spring game and remain among the leaders for that position battle with practice underway.

White arrived in 2020 as a transfer from East Mississippi Community College and played 11 games that season.

Memphis remains stout at defensive line as the Tigers are switching to a 4-3 scheme under first-year coordinator Matt Barnes. Besides Jackson and Brockington, junior Meonta Kimbrough is among the players who could contribute at defensive tackle.
