An unnamed neurotrauma consultant has been terminated by the NFL Players Association after it found several mistakes made in the process of clearing Tagovailoa against the Baltimore Ravens two weekends ago, according to multiple reports including one by CBS NFL Insider Jonathan Jones.

When former Alabama football and current Miami Dolphins quarterback Tagovailoa had to be carted off Thursday night against the Bengals, questions were raised about the process that led to Tagovailoa playing after a big hit the week before.

Against the Ravens, Tagovailoa got up from a hit and immediately stumbled while trying to walk back to the huddle. He went into concussion protocol and returned to the game after halftime, prompting the NFLPA to launch an investigation into the process that it took for Tagovailoa to be cleared.

Other than the termination of the medical professional, no results of the investigation have been made public.

Tagovailoa was released from the hospital Thursday night and flew back to Miami with the Dolphins. He remains in concussion protocol as of Saturday.

Tagovailoa played at Alabama from 2017-19 and stepped into the 2017 national championship game to lead Alabama to a victory over Georgia as a freshman. He passed for 7,442 yards and 84 touchdowns during his Alabama career and was the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
