Report: Oakland A’s exploring possibility to play in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) – Salt Lake City already has the Bees, but could the city also host the A’s?

According to a report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oakland A’s officials are planning on touring Smith’s Ballpark, home of the Salt Lake Bees, to see if it is feasible to play its game there from 2025-2027.

The A’s are moving to Las Vegas from Oakland, but the $1.5 billion, 33,000-seat ballpark will not be ready until 2028. The A’s lease with the Oakland Coliseum expires after the 2024 season, so the team will be looking for a new home until it can move to Las Vegas.

Oakland officials have also toured the Sacramento Rivercats stadium as a possible destination. They could also play at the home of the Las Vegas Aviators, the San Francisco Giants’ Oracle Park and the Reno Aces’ Greater Nevada Field. All options are still on the table, according to the report.

The report says A’s owner John Fisher and president Dave Kaval are expected to tour Smith’s Ballpark later this week.

One year ago, the Salt Lake Bees announced that they were leaving Smith’s Ballpark after the 2024 season for a new stadium in Daybreak.
