Report: Red Sox sign 2-time Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber to 1-year, $10M deal

The Boston Red Sox have reportedly signed free agent starting pitcher Corey Kluber to a one-year contract worth $10 million.

Kluber’s deal includes a club option for 2024, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported. The 36-year-old right-hander pitched for the Tampa Bay Rays last season.

Kluber, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, struck out 139 batters last season while only giving up 21 walks in 164 innings.

He joins a rotation that is currently made up of starting pitching candidates including Chris Sale, Nick Pivetta, Garret Whitlock, Tanner Hauck, and Brayan Bello. On Tuesday, starter Nathan Eovaldi departed Boston to sign with the Texas Rangers.

Kluber has pitched with the Cleveland Guardians, Rangers, New York Yankees, and Rays over the course of 12 seasons. He holds a career ERA of 3.31 and 113 wins in 251 starts.

His most successful season came in 2018 when he won 20 games for the Guardians. He notched 18-win seasons on two other occasions.
