Report says Chiefs’ opponent for next season’s game in Germany has been determined

The NFL is expected to release the 2023 schedule early next month, and the league may make known the slate of international games shortly before the official schedule announcement.

One of the international contests will include the Chiefs’ game in Germany, their first in Europe since 2015.

Who will the Chiefs face? Lions president Rod Wood said last month it was 50-50 that his team would be the Chiefs’ opponent.

However, it may end up being a different NFC North team traveling to either Munich or Frankfurt to face the Chiefs.

David Kaplan, who works for ESPN radio in Chicago and is with NBC Sports Chicago, said he’s been told the Bears will face the Chiefs.

“I have learned the Bears and Chiefs are expected to play in Germany next season,” Kaplan said in a video on his YouTube channel. “So the Bears and Justin Fields get Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl champs. Again, they’re expected to play next fall in Germany.”

The game in Germany will take the place of one that would have been held at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. If the Bears are chosen to play, the Chiefs will face these eight teams at Arrowhead in the 2023 season: Bengals, Bills, Chargers, Eagles, Dolphins, Broncos, Lions and Raiders.

Five of those teams made the playoffs a year ago.
