The Republicans had Clint Eastwood, for better or for worse. The Democrats are aiming to counterprogram with a prime-time trio of Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman and Kerry Washington, CNN reports.

According to CNN, a tentative schedule has the young actresses appearing on Thursday, the night of President Obama's acceptance speech, just after the band The Foo Fighters. The plan is to have the three stars onstage together.

The three would provide a dramatic generational contrast to Eastwood, 82. Johansson is 27, Portman is 31, and Washington — star of Scandal, ABC's politics crisis-management show about the nation's capital — is 35.

Democratic officials declined to discuss whether the actresses would appear.

The convention will not lack for star power. Jessica Alba and producer husband Cash Warren are cohosting Super-O-Rama, the top fete on Thursday night. Others in Charlotte this week: Patricia Arquette, Jeff Bridges, Rose Byrne, Ashley Judd, John Leguizamo, and Tony Shalhoub.
