Report: Spurs’ Jeremy Sochan placed in health and safety protocol

San Antonio Spurs draftee Jeremy Sochan has been reportedly placed in the NBA’s health and safety protocol, according to Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News.
Sochan returned a positive coronavirus test and will not participate in their week-long summer league training camp that started on Wednesday. The Spurs haven’t yet ruled him out of playing, but his status is uncertain with the team set to begin on July 8.
The Spurs selected Sochan out of Baylor with the ninth overall pick in the draft last week. He was named the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year after posting 9.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals in 30 games as a freshman.
Sochan joined fellow picks Malaki Branham (20th) and Blake Wesley (25th) on the Spurs’ summer league roster released this week. The team will also feature roster players Josh Primo, Joe Wieskamp and Robert Woodard II among others.
San Antonio will play five games in Las Vegas, leaving open the chance that Sochan could be cleared in time to play. He would also likely need to go through some practice and other conditioning drills to be ready to suit up.
