Report: Vikings DE Danielle Hunter expected to be in attendance for mandatory minicamp

This offseason, the Vikings have done a lot of work through free agency and the draft to revamp their defense. However, a key piece for the unit has been absent from offseason activities.

Danielle Hunter has been reportedly unhappy with his contract situation. He was missing from OTAs recently, which has led to speculation about him possibly missing mandatory minicamps. That doesn’t seem to be the case, though.

According to NFL Network’s James Jones, Hunter will be in attendance when mandatory minicamp starts up on Tuesday. Of course, this can still mean that Hunter is unhappy with his current deal, but it is a step in the right direction from the team’s perspective.

Hunter was out for all of 2020 with a season-ending neck injury. Before that, he has two consecutive seasons where he tallied 14.5 sacks. With the lack of depth the team has at edge rusher currently, Hunter returning to his past production will be a big boost. On paper, Minnesota’s defense is pretty complete — but that’s only if Hunter is in the mix.
