While Klay Thompson has been a part of the Golden State Warriors 2021 training camp, the five-time All-Star guard has been limited during practice as he continues to rehab his Achilles injury.

With the regular season approaching, Thompson could be making a full return to Golden State’s practice in the near future. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Thompson could be cleared for full practices “over the next month or so.” The 31-year-old guard is still expected to make his return to the court in December or January, per Charania.

After missing a pair of seasons with an ACL and Achilles injury, the Warriors will likely be cautious with Thompson as he progresses through his long-awaited comeback to the court.

Throughout his rehab, there have been multiple encouraging signs around Thompson’s comeback to the court.

He has been active at Golden State’s training camp. A recent video from practice showed Thompson dunking in an individual drill. Thompson has also been featured in videos showing off his smooth jumper from beyond the arc.

While Thompson is out, Jordan Poole will likely fill in alongside Steph Curry in Golden State’s backcourt. Poole has been the lead story of Golden State’s preseason campaign, averaging 23.3 points on 51.6% shooting from the floor with 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

Poole and the Warriors will be back at Chase Center on Friday against the Portland Trail Blazers for the final contest of the preseason slate. The Warriors will meet the Los Angeles Lakers on the opening night of the NBA season on Oct. 19.
