A common theme this offseason: the Vikings wide receiver three situation, or lack thereof.

According to Josina Anderson, all that is about to change. Minnesota is signing Dede Westbrook on Sunday. Westbrook is signing a one-year deal, per Anderson.

Westbrook reportedly had interest from other teams like the Seahawks. That makes sense. He is an explosive wide receiver who, when healthy, has shown he has big-play potential.

He is coming off an injury-marred 2020 where he played in just two games. However, he had 660 receiving yards in 2019. He also has the ability to return punts, an area where the Vikings struggled in 2020.

Operating under the assumption that Westbrook signs, the Minnesota wide receiver corps just got a lot better. The Vikings had a big drop off on the depth chart after Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson. Westbrook changes that. He is a bit inconsistent, but that’s not a glaring issue for a wide receiver three — sometimes you need one, sometimes you don’t.

When the Vikings need one in 2021, they’ll have an easy time calling on Westbrook, assuming he signs on Sunday.
