Reporter goes wild on air as Australia qualifies for World Cup

STORY: ABC reporter, Tony Armstrong, joined fans watching the Australia versus Peru match at Melbourne's Federation Square and screamed into the microphone while doing a live cross for ABC Breakfast as the Socceroos defeated Peru in a penalty shootout.

Armstrong was soon surrounded by fans, with one kissing the camera and another stealing his scarf, which was later recovered.

The Socceroos edged Peru 5-4 in a shootout following 0-0 draw after extra time in an inter-continental playoff. They will play in Group D at the World Cup with holders France, Denmark and Tunisia.

The finals run from Nov. 21-Dec. 18.
