Reports of Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ demise (on Twitter) were greatly exaggerated

Near the end of the first half of the Chiefs’ 31-13 win at Washington, quarterback Patrick Mahomes had arguably the worst play of his career.

It was third-and-1 from the Washington 20-yard line when Mahomes fumbled the snap and rushed to pick up the ball. The Washington defense converged on Mahomes, grabbing him as he tried to make a pass.

Instead of taking a sack and setting up a field-goal attempt, Mahomes threw the ugliest pass of his career.

After the game, Mahomes told CBS Sports’ Evan Washburn: “I threw that dumb interception that I fumbled and ... everyone just came back and said, ‘You be you. You keep doing what you’re doing. We believe in you.’”

Others, however, didn’t quite share that faith after Mahomes threw his eighth interception of the season. Many people on Twitter thought Mahomes’ best days were behind him.

One in particular was Michael Ginnitti, of Spotrac, a website dedicated to the contracts of professional athletes.

After that ugly pick, Ginnitti tweeted the financial obligations of Mahomes’ contract for the Chiefs.

Old Takes Exposed knew the purpose of that tweet, even if it wasn’t spelled out by Ginnitti.

Others were unimpressed with that tweet, especially after Mahomes looked like himself in the second half. He threw one pass that astonished fans but ended up not counting. Then there was this gem:

In the second half, Mahomes completed 19 of 24 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns.

Here is what others were saying about that Spotrac tweet that wasn’t saying Mahomes’ contract with the Chiefs was a good deal.
