Tennessee State quarterback Demry Croft is facing six charges of rape and two charges of sexual assault, The Tennessean reports.

News 4 in Nashville reports that Croft, 22, allegedly "intentionally engaged in unlawful sexual contact" and "unlawful sexual penetration" with an unconsenting victim on Dec. 1 and that one victim is named related to all eight charges.

The alleged incident occurred on campus, according to the Tennessean.

School acknowledges an athlete was arrested

Croft was arrested on Monday and released from Davidson County jail later that day on $50,000 bond, according to the reports. He’s scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 4.

The university acknowledged that a student-athlete was arrested in a statement without naming Croft.

“The University is aware that a student athlete was arrested in a criminal matter. Due to federal and state student privacy laws, no further comment can be made at this time. However, the University takes seriously any allegation of sexual misconduct that may affect our campus community.”

Croft still listed on football roster

The athletic department did not address the arrest, and Croft remains listed on the team’s online roster.

Croft started four games last season before a shoulder injury ended his season. He was expected to be the team’s starting quarterback to open this season, according to the Tennessean.

Croft played at Minnesota prior to transferring to Tennessee State in 2017. Croft, who started six games for the Gophers in 2017, said he was suspended at Minnesota after falsely being accused of damaging a door, leading to his departure.
