Autopsy on Twin Lakes High School football standout could take weeks

MONTICELLO, Ind. – The Twin Lakes High School community and close-knit White County in Indiana are again mourning the death of a teen athlete – Kayvion Jackson, with a college football career awaiting him at Indiana Wesleyan University, died Sunday.

Determining how Jackson died could take weeks, White County Coroner Anthony G. Deibel told the Journal & Courier.

"They finished (the autopsy) this afternoon," Deible said Tuesday. "I have not gotten a preliminary (report) back. So I don't actually have any info yet.

"We'll do a preliminary cause of death if we have one, otherwise it'll be pending until we get all of our toxic pathology back ... I may not have answers for three or four weeks."

While the cause of death remains undetermined, Jackson's high school and football families expressed the grief surrounding his reported passing on social media.

"The Twin Lakes School Corporation extends our love and prayers to the family of Kayvion Jackson," the Twin Lakes School Corporation posted on Facebook. "Our hearts are heavy with the loss of such an amazing young man.

"He has already made his mark on us… And we will carry that on forever."

The Indians football team found describing his loss difficult to put into words.

"The TL Football Family was hit hard today," Twin Lakes Football tweeted. "Kayvion was one of the hardest working and kindest persons out there. Words can't begin to explain the impact he made on and off the field. He will be truly missed. #RIP21 #Family"

A prayer vigil has been scheduled for 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Twin Lakes High School football field, according to the school district's Facebook page.

In March, Jackson, a senior defensive lineman from the Monticello, Ind., high school, was named to the 2022 signing class of Indiana Wesleyan University. As a senior at Twin Lakes, he rushed for five touchdowns and made 65 tackles last fall and was named to the Indiana Football Coaches Association's Region IV all-star team.

"We are ecstatic with the 2022 recruiting class!" Jordan Langs, head football coach, told the Victory Sports Network. "Our coaches worked tirelessly to identify prospects who will continue the standard of excellence that has been set in our program, and who will be exemplary beacons of the University's mission. We cannot wait to have them join us on campus this Fall!"

Jackson's death comes about four months after another Twin Lakes teenager's death. In February, Indiana State Police Sgt. Stephanie Thompson and her 17-year-old daughter Mya, a celebrated high school swimmer, died in a house fire in Monticello, the Journal & Courier reported.
