Here’s how you can repot your plants

For the last episode of In The Know’s Plant Week, Christopher Griffin simplified the daunting process of how to repot plants.
Griffin used a ZZ plant to demonstrate how easy and therapeutic repotting can actually be — especially when you have the right tools.
First things first, get yourself prepared with a couple of cute planters that’ll house your plants.
Next, put in a decent layer of soil into the new planter — you want to make sure that it’s a thick enough layer that the roots won’t touch the bottom of the new pot. After, you’ll want to add some fir bark which Griffin said will add “some nice, rich texture” to the soil.
“One of the things that I absolutely love about fir bark is that it has this nice aroma,” Griffin said. “How much fir bark you put inside is completely up to you.”
Now it’s time to prepare your plant for a transplant. If your plant is tightly packed in her current pot, use a hand trowel to unpack the soil around the edges. Otherwise, gently tug the plant out of the soil until you can see the roots.
“I’m going to remove some of that old soil because it’s no longer nutritious,” Griffin said. “This pot is a little larger than the one she came from so she’ll have some more room to grow.”
Add extra soil and fir bark to completely submerge the plant into the pot.
“There you have it, our green girl is looking absolutely lush,” Griffin concluded. “As you can see, repotting can be a fun, therapeutic process.”
