Arizona’s wackadoodle Republican Reps. Andy Biggs and Paul Gosar are having trouble keeping up with wackadoodlier Republican members of Congress like Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Matt Gaetz of Florida, each of whom almost – I repeat, almost – make Biggs and Gosar seem normal.

Sort of.

A little.

In a one brick versus two bricks shy of load sort of way.

Darned if Arizona’s two congressional crackpots don’t do their not-so-level best to keep up with their brother and sister screwballs, however.

This week, they joined the other politicians stranded on the Island of Misfit Lawmakers in voting against an anti-human trafficking bill.

Not interested in combating 'scourge'

The bill updates the statutory authority for the Center for Countering Human Trafficking within the Department of Homeland Security. The basic premise of the legislation is to provide resources for local agencies in areas where sex-trafficking is high and to reauthorize the Department of Homeland Security’s Angel Watch Center, which is meant to prevent international sex tourism travel perpetrated by child sex offenders, among other things.

It passed in the House by a vote of 401-20, with all of the no votes coming from Republicans.

Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine and Republican Sen. Marco Rubio were among those who sponsored the legislation.

Wide bipartisan support, except from ...

Kaine said, “Human traffickers victimize millions of people each day. We should make every possible effort to eliminate the scourge of human trafficking in the U.S. and abroad. This legislation is necessary to ensure the U.S. has the resources to combat human trafficking, including prosecuting traffickers, improving prevention efforts, and ensuring support for survivors.”

Rubio added, “Human trafficking is an urgent global crisis that has caused horrific suffering for millions worldwide. This bill will provide the tools to better combat the scourge of human trafficking and hold perpetrators accountable so that women and men around the world can live safely and freely.”

Even in these uberdivisive times the bill had widespread bipartisan support in both the Senate and the House, a condition that Biggs, Gosar and their pals apparently find more troubling than … sex trafficking.
