GOP continues to get rolled by Trump

Add [former Speaker] Kevin McCarthy to the distinguished and not so distinguished list of bodies under the Donald Trump Bus. Does anyone remember Jeff Sessions, the former senator from Alabama who was one of the first to endorse and campaign for Trump? As attorney general, he actually knew something about government and recused himself from the "Russia Investigation," which cost him his job and political career. The irony of all this is McCarthy's detractors claimed they could not trust him. Yet, they stand behind Trump's "Big Lie," knowing it's a lie and that the headlights of the Trump Bus are on their backs.

Quest for power steamrolls values

Integrity, dignity, self-respect, courage — these qualities are irreplaceable and once compromised are lost.  Americans have the right to and should demand our political leaders demonstrate these attributes. Unfortunately, Republicans in ‘leadership’ positions have lost these qualities.

As the likely Republican presidential nominee threatens to kill our military leaders, wants to shred the Constitution and eliminate a free press, openly admires and appeases dictators while turning his back on our allies, and proposes to destroy any American institution designed to hold him legally accountable, our ‘leaders’ cower in their offices complaining in private but not daring to speak publicly. The history of dictatorships shows that even those who keep quiet are not safe.  Is it really worth it to hold onto a public office, if by doing so you are complicit in destroying American democracy?

Reproductive rights on the ballot, too

Over a year ago, the U.S. Supreme Court  returned the issue of the regulation of women's healthcare and the right to an abortion to the states. Now, extreme MAGA Republican-led legislatures are instituting regulations resulting in forced pregnancy for children and women. A woman's right to freedom and control of her own body should not depend upon the state in which she lives.  We need federal legislation to protect reproductive freedom for all.

Democratic members of Congress like Rep. Lois Frankel are fighting for our reproductive rights. Not only have they co-sponsored the Women’s Health Protection Act to codify Roe v. Wade, but they’ve also signed onto The Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act, H.R. 782, to affirm the right to travel to receive legal abortion care and The My Body, My Data Act, H.R. 3420, to protect data privacy related to reproductive health information.

We need all Democrats as strong champions of reproductive freedom, not just to win back the House in 2024, but to actually deliver on these bills for the millions of Americans whose health and lives depend on them. Your vote is your voice.  We must elect Democrats to regain the House and pass these bills and protect our rights!
