The most-crowded Assembly seat up for grabs in northeastern Wisconsin is in District 6, according to nomination papers approved and pending approval with the Wisconsin Elections Commission.

June 1 was the deadline to file nomination papers with the commission.

Ten hopefuls in the 6th Assembly District are jockeying for position to succeed Rep. Gary Tauchen, R-Bonduel, who is leaving politics. Three Republican candidates will be on the ballot, and three others filed their nomination papers, which are pending approval.

State Senate, Assembly and some county positions are up for election. If a primary is required, it will be held Aug. 9. The general election will be Nov. 8.

All of the two-year seats in the Assembly are up for election. In the state Senate, the odd-numbered districts are up for election and a four-year term.

In the 5th Assembly District, two Brown County Republicans and a Brown County Democrat are trying to get onto the ballot. They're vying to replace incumbent Jim Steineke, R-Kaukauna, who is stepping away from from politics.
