According to Midland Fire and Rescue, crews deployed from different locations along the river to look for the victim. Rocky River runs south past Midland in Cabarrus County before turning east.
At about 5 p.m., Midland Fire & Rescue said the crews were called to the end of McManus Road near Riverbend Farms off Highway 24/27, which is close to the river.
The man was in a domestic situation when he went into the water, said David Bradshaw, public information officer with Midland Fire & Rescue.
They started to search the waterway and banks of the Rocky River for several miles with no results.
