Research 2023 municipal election candidates for Matthews Board of Commissioners

Matthews voters will choose six commissioners and elect at least one new person in the 2023 election.

There are 12 candidates seeking 6 seats on the Board of Commissioners. Incumbent commissioner Larry Whitley is not seeking reelection. Mayor John F. Higdon is seeking reelection and doesn’t have any competition on the ballot.

Candidates for town commissioner are listed below. Click on the person’s name to view answers to The Charlotte Observer’s 2023 voters guide questionnaire. The Observer wasn’t able to reach Jonathan Clayton.

Election Day is Nov. 7, and early voting begins Oct. 19. To check your voter regisration, find your polling place and see your sample ballot, visit vt.ncsbe.gov/RegLkup.
