All veterans and current military personnel who attend the event can enter for free. They will be recognized in a ceremony planned during the program. Attendees are asked to reserve a seat by calling Sancrant at 734-755-0956. Almost 30 veterans were honored last year.

The public also can attend but are also required to make a reservation, Sancrant said. The cost has not been determined yet, but will range between $15 and $20 a person, he said.

Details of the dinner were discussed during the post’s and auxiliary’s monthly meetings last week. April Killian, hospital chairman and a volunteer for the auxiliary, announced she had prepared 50 decorated cards and lapel pins that will be given to each veteran. The cards are decorated with flags that say “Let Freedom Ring” and thank the veterans for their service and helping to preserve freedom. The pins include a red Buddy Poppy and a patriotic ribbon.

She also has printed stickers and flyers for veterans that contain the lyrics to all military service hymns, the 13 folds of the American flag and a description of the white table ceremony. Killian said she got the idea for the gifts while attending a similar ceremony held last Veterans Day at the Moongate Senior Living Center in Temperance.
