‘The Resident’ Canceled At Fox After Six Seasons

Fox has pulled the plug on The Resident.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has decided to cancel the medical drama three months after airing its 13-episode sixth season. Per the outlet, this past season brought in the show’s lowest ratings to date, with its audience of 6.9 million viewers down 12 percent from the 2021-22 season.

The series stars Matt Czuchry as Conrad Hawkins; Bruce Greenwood as Dr. Randolph Bell; Manish Dayal as Devon Pravesh; Malcolm-Jamal Warner as AJ Austin; Jane Leeves as Dr. Kit Voss; Jessica Lucas as Billie Sutton; Anuja Joshi as Leela Devi; Kaley Ronayne as Dr. Kincaid Sullivan; and Andrew McCarthy as Dr. Ian Sullivan.

1. 'The Resident' was one of three dramas to air this season that Fox does not have ownership of.

Since the premiere of The Resident in January 2018, Fox has tried to own or co-own as much of its programming following its $71 billion with Disney.

The Resident, 9-1-1, and 9-1-1: Lone Star are the only dramas to air on the network this season in which Fox Entertainment doesn’t have a stake.

2. Fox has already ordered another medical drama.

According to THR, Fox a medical drama, titled Doc, earlier this week. The series is a co-production between Sony Pictures TV and Fox Entertainment. Per the outlet, Doc will be based on a hit Italian show that has been adapted in several other countries.
