Update – September 13: Resident Evil stuntwoman Olivia Jackson has accused the film's producers of "elevating financial considerations over safety" in a graphic new lawsuit that details her horrific injuries.

Jackson, who performed stunts for Milla Jovovich's character Alice, lost her arm in an accident on the set of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter in September 2015 and has shared details of the "catastrophic" injuries she sustained in a new complaint against the film's producers.

In the documents, as seen on The Hollywood Reporter, Jackson says the accident occurred after the scene was changed at the last minute, describing how the film had switched from a fight scene to a "dangerous and technically complex motorcycle scene in adverse weather".

Jackson further outlined in the lawsuit that the accident saw her collide with a camera that wasn't lifted away in time, resulting in her "slicing through the bone of her forearm and tearing the flesh off her cheek, leaving her teeth exposed". It also detailed her other injuries, including needing to have her left arm amputated and suffering multiple fractures in her spine, her ribs and throughout her body.

The complaint also says that producers had told Jackson their insurance would cover any injuries sustained but only paid $33,000, and added that her husband was told that the producers would pay for her medical care and rehab, but they later withdrew the offer.

"After skimping on insurance and causing Plaintiff's nightmarish injuries, Defendants shamelessly abandoned Plaintiff and welched on their promise to provide financial support to cover her medical expenses," the complaint added.

"Plaintiff was left without the financial means to cover the medical care she desperately needed for her grievous injuries, while Defendants, for their part, continue to enjoy the abundant profits generated by The Final Chapter."

The defendants to the lawsuit are yet to respond.

Original story – December 13: A stuntwoman who's previously stood in for the likes of Charlize Theron and Karen Gillan is suing for over £2 million in damages following a crash on the set of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

Olivia Jackson was left with life-changing injuries after a motorcycle stunt on the set of the franchise's latest sequel went tragically wrong.

Filming for the action movie was under way in South Africa three years ago when Jackson's motorbike collided with a mechanical mobile film camera.

Jackson, who has documented her recovery on Instagram, said that she was left with a number of "debilitating" spinal injuries following the accident, and was also forced to have one of her arms amputated.

Sharing a recent x-ray of her spine on Instagram, Jackson told fans that the "constant pain" as a result of her "[skewed] spine and fused neck" is "unexplainable".

According to Sky News, Olivia, who is seeking approximately £2.2 million in damages, is suing the Road Accident Fund, the production and stunt company involved in the film, the camera crane operator, and The Final Chapter's director, Paul WS Anderson – all in their personal capacities.

All parties have served notice to defend the actions but the full responses haven't been filed yet.

As reported by IOL, the camera crane operator claimed in court papers that Olivia made no attempt to slow down and the accident wouldn't have happened if she had applied brakes.

The court case for compensation will be heard in 2019.

The Final Chapter was released back in January 2017, but that hasn't stopped plans of a reboot from moving forward.

Addressing rumours of a revival last year, the film's lead Milla Jovovich wished the new venture "good luck".

"I think a lot of people with these franchises kind of put the cart before the horse. There's a danger to that. They've been wanting to reboot Resident Evil for a long time," she said.
