Residents can dispose of hazardous waste for free on Saturday

Residents can dispose of unwanted, residential hazardous items in an environmentally friendly manner free of charge from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Wastewater Treatment Facility, 1300 11th St. SE, Saturday.

This event is for the disposal of residential hazardous waste only. Commercial or industrial waste will not be accepted.

Items with the following labels will be accepted:

  • Caution

  • Pesticide

  • Danger

  • Flammable

  • Combustible

  • Poison

  • Corrosive

  • Reactive

  • Warning

  • Toxic

  • Mercury

Examples of acceptable items include aerosols, mercury or products containing mercury, drain cleaners, fluorescent bulbs, gasoline and kerosene de-greasers, weed killers, bug and rodent sprays and killers, oil-based paints, and lithium and NiCad batteries.

Commercial, industrial and medical waste, computer equipment, radioactive waste, TVs, explosives, used oil, copiers, phones or fax machines, latex paint, used antifreeze, lead acid/car batteries, tires and household batteries will not be accepted.
